21. Video equipment tour

My equipment has arrived. I have enough card board boxes, from the packaging, that I could build a card board house and the UPS and FedEx guys are here everyday that I feel like there good friends now.

So this is video of the some of the gear I bought. I'm excited to get my incorporation done because then I get a tax I.D. number. That means I can talk to wholesalers and get the actual wholesale prices. This also then means I can order product and start shooting video and pics for the site. Well enjoy the video.

Monday I meet with lawyers to go over incorporating and I.P. law. Wish me luck...

18. New Concept video but its too long

Worked late into the night... 1:30am to be exact, to finish up this video slideshow to pitch my business concept in a different manner than the cartoon. Well, maybe because I was tired and working at a more slower mood set... I'm looking at it today with fresh eyes and realizing it is too SLOW and too long. Going to have to do a better job at just getting to the point.
What is the Customer pain point... BAM
What is the value proposition... BAM
How am  I going to accomplish this and time frames... BAM
And why is your team the kickass team to do it. BAM

But shit... I'm learning a lot from all these mistakes.

I need to send out this email blast to friends and family to get votes on MassChallenge so it will have to wait. I also only have till the 11th to finish my application for MassChallenge so this is going on the back burner.

But if you have 5 minutes to burn. Here you go:

17. Equity compensation in high tech

A piece of the Pie "Equity compensation for emerging companies" one broadway, cambridge ma at british consulate-gerneral boston.
Richard Lucash, Travis Drouin, Theo Sharp, Christine Moore

So what I learned...
1.First of if there is a meeting at 7:30a.m most likely everyone in the place is going to be in suits. So maybe showing up in motorcycle gear and a RedSox jersey might not make me fit in too well. But hell! I'm trying to make an impression. (I want people to say. i have seen that guy every where and I'm hard to miss with a faux hawk and loud attire.
2. Equity compensation is very complicated. I learned most companies are being acquire vs the traditional route of an I.P.O. and because of that the company purchasing you wants to make sure key employees stay on board. So you can have everyone cash out when you get your pay day or they wont buy you. Never thought of that angle...
3. The equity compensation for employees, investors, and founders can be very tricky when it comes to the tax side of things. How are taxes going to be paid? What about valuations? Some types of equity is more favorable when you are looking at it from the tax angle.
4. Never knew there were consultants that specialize in just equity compensation. (Pearl Meyer & Partners) I talked to Theo Sharp and he had some great advice for me and also told me we could talk a lot more "off the clock" because he knows us startups are scrapping penny's together every day. So that was a grat connection I made.

16. MassAccess: Speed Networking

First time ever doing a speed networking event and I recommend it to everyone. You get to fill out ahead a time the type of people you are interested in meeting and they try to match you. I got some great feedback on my concept and I talked to two great I.P. lawyers.

Currently, Harkavy is the President of Harkador Partners, where he offers part-time CEO services, and is developing business models and business strategies for his start up clients. He sits on the Board of Directors and Advisory Board of several early stage companies.

At 7 PM Jim Geisman of Software Pricing Partners will present Software Pricing for SaaS Startups. Jim Geisman is founder and principal of Software Pricing Partners, Inc. where he provides senior management counsel and marketing and sales consulting services. He has led consulting engagements for a broad range of clients addressing fundamental issues affecting business success.

At 7:30 PM Michael Preshman of RippleFunction and at 8 PM Candice Cabe of Day2Night Heels will pitch their startups to Tom Egan of Launch Capital.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, it was a very very crappy night. Not a great night to be riding a motorcycle... that's for sure. I braved the snow and rain and made it to Dogpatch. Brad had some great stuff on the current climate for investors and it was helpful to understand the startup investing market a little bit better. Great comparison also on west coast vs east coast.

Jim talked about pricing... So I was really paying close attention. He focuses more on the B2B play so the B2C (which is where I am) he didn't touch on too much. Boooo!!

And then my friend Candice pitched her business concept and did a great job.

Sorry to not cover more on the blog but I need to concentrate on the business stuff and when I get breaks write stuff more my blog. But here are some pics.
